CFDs, not the underlying. You never own the share or the ounce of gold. You hold a contract that tracks its price, which is what lets you go short and use leverage, and why positions held overnight carry a financing charge.
Dividends and splits. Share CFD holders receive a cash adjustment on the ex‐dividend date (long positions are credited, short positions debited). Splits are adjusted automatically.
Weekend gaps. Prices can open on Sunday evening some distance from Friday's close. A stop loss is filled at the first available price, which may be worse than the level you set. Guaranteed stops are available on major instruments for a premium.
